Friends of North Lake Union (FONLU)

The Friends of North Lake Union (FONLU) strive to regenerate the historic ecological vitality of Lake Union and its surrounding habitats, while engendering social benefits to its current citizens. We collaborate with engaged citizens, government agencies, and property owners to improve shoreline habitats and provide public access to Lake Union. Founded in the fall of 2014, FONLU is a grassroots environmental organization comprised of a dedicated group of volunteers who live north of Lake Union and have spearheaded several ongoing initiatives.

  • FONLU is attempting to create a restoration project at Waterway 22 along the shoreline on N. Northlake Way. The restoration project hopes to create a public space utilized by the community to enjoy the great view from the site.
  • FONLU is also committed to creating public awareness to highlight challenges facing Lake Union and conducting ongoing research and data collection. You can follow FONLU on twitter @northlakeunion or visit our facebook page at facebook.com/northlakeunion.

Past Projects:

  • FONLU also participated in Seattle's Parking Day event in 2015 by creating a parklet. The parklet was located on 45th Street in the Wallingford neighborhood and featured a game table and snacks for the neighborhood to check out.

  • In conjunction with the restoration work, FONLU has been working with the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods to fund a geotechnical assessment. FONLU was awarded a Neighborhood Matching Fund grant to create a preliminary assessment for the site.
